A little bit of philosophy here, if you really hate the "Sakura-haters", does that make you as bad as them? But honestly, try to explain it to them. And if you can't, get someone else to explain it to them. That usually works. Or try to pull the rug out from under them. Try to find something they enjoy that is related to anime. For instance, there are many people who grew up on things such as G-Force/Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) and Speed Racer (Mach Go Go Go) and still don't know that it is. I know I don't know much about these Sakura-haters you were talking about (Or more precisley, I don't know jack-shit about them), but something's bound to work.

No, explaining things to them will absolutely blow up in your face. Trust me. You will *never* change their minds. > <

Yeah, but I don't think that just avoiding it will take away her family's suspiscion. Her parents are most likely believing that if she isn't doing anything wrong, then there's nothing to hide; while I may not agree with this statement and think that things like this breed paranoia and shame, it would do Chaos well to follow along with that line of thought, rather than try to change their views. It would probably do her best to act exactly the way she has, unashamed. As Itami has said, it won't help to immerse her family in anime, but Chaos can still be open about what she does (though, she should take note not to be sarcastic about it). She should point out that anime really has had no negative aspects to other parts of her life (this is of course assuming that Chaos hasn't had problems recently, otherwise this point is null). And lastly, she shouldn't be active in trying to go against this, as one would think; on the contrary, she should be passive, only slightly changing the way she acts in the ways I've just pointed out. Being too active about it will just fuel her family's ideas. I've been in a similar problem, and doing this helped me alleviate the situation quite a bit.

The problem in essence is... they aren't her parents. Therefore, they do not have any instincts of a parent towards her. So while Kioko's advice is good, it still doesn't specifically apply to her situation since it's their house and they'll have their way.

Point still works: unless the access has specifically been restricted, then there's no reason to avoid it. My problem also involved a non-parent, and it still worked. It might even work a bit better, seeing as how (I guess I have to assume from her writing the dynamic) there are other people she is being compared to that they are in direct contact with: with me, it was mostly people who lived in other states who we got a phonecall from. She will have to work hard to appear good in all other aspects of life and not react when things start going bad (and they'll get worse), but the rest is just a waiting game. --Last edited by kioko on 2008-07-12 22:35:15 --

The reason why I can't talk to them about these things and things that bug me is that their minds and probably hearts are closed for me. Kioko has soo many good points but really...... I can't do anything about them. They believe that anything that relates to Japanese and Korean are bad.... something like "if you go to their sites they give you a lot of viruses" OH COME ON! WHATA FREAK!!! I DON'T GO TO THEIR SITES!! I CAN'T READ JAPANESE OR KOREAN!!! For goodness sake.... and of course they won't believe me because they think I'm under their control and they think what I do is traced and whatever they traced, they believe that it brings bad stuff... Really... I barely go online. Most of the time I go to this site or read mangas online. That’s pretty much it. It all happens when my internet was down for a week…. And I needed to check online once in a while also anyway. It took me a week to ask them because I can just see they are going to say something like “Well it’s because you go to those Sakura sites and get virus that’s why you don’t have any internet.” And really when I finally asked them. Exact words. That’s what they say. When really what happened is that One of these Demon child pulled out the connection and she didn’t know how to put it back without the Encryption Key for the wireless. See how dumb it is? They blame everything to me!!! Really I’m sick of this life. They go against everything that I like and I want. Even if I tell them there’s nothing wrong with Anime they won’t believe me and I’ll end up getting yelled at. And I doubt I’ll have the courage to explain things to them when I think I developed a “conversation to the male Sakura hater Phobia” ( Did I phrase that right?) Yes… that’s all I’ve been avoiding for 3 and a half year. Not to have conversation with him. Whenever he ask me something I can’t reply straight or I’d get really scared. Gahh!!!! What have they done to me!? It came to the point where I really want to run away now… and I could careless if all my family will hate me forever. I won’t go back home and I’ll never show my face if I can get out of this house…. It’s not that they are treating me bad… It’s all unfair. That’s all.

I had that exact same situation 0_0. . . Of course, mine ended up working out for the better: they got a new computer, and, sick and tired of me "messing up the internet with my stupid anime crap", I wasn't allowed on it and was instead given the old computer. Now their brand-new computer works like crap, while mine works fine (to the point where my mother has on occasion had to go onto my computer to check her email). So unless you somehow fall into that situation (i.e. have an uncle that will randomly surprise the family with a new computer for christmas) I really won't know what to add to it, besides knowing and learning enough about computers to be able to a) fix any problem to the point where you going on it is basically needed for them and b) diagnose the problem and show how it wasn't linked to anything Japanese. Now, you don't have to necessarily be extremely knowledgeable about it: chances are, the "Sakura Haters" are both very computer-illiterate to the point of hilarity and possessors of an innate hatred of the troubleshooting thing on the computer that will usually tell you how to solve the problem anyway, which means that most problems will be extremely minor and can be fixed quickly and easily using said troubleshooter. And that's where things get interesting. Case in point: one time my stepfather yelled at me when the computer was being slow, saying that one of the settings had been switched to Japanese and that that was what caused the problem (note that this was on the new computer that, as mentioned, I'm not allowed on). I tried to explain that there was no way that that could be the problem, but he wouldn't have it. He switched it back. The next day, my mom couldn't use the internet at all. I was away at the time and unable to look at the computer, so she called the help hotline. She then found out that that setting is SUPPOSED to be in Japanese, and changing it to something else will fuck things up. And the computer slowdown? My stepfather has a very old computer game that slows the computer down to an aching crawl.

wow.... well at least you can have it your way you know. I mean... yeah My uncle is a computer literate because it's his job.... (don't know exactly) that's why he threatens me with things. I mean... it's stupid how they blame everything to us because of what we like about anime and japanese but come on!! they need to start realizing they can't just blame someone about the things they do because they don't like it. Well at least your parents still lets you.... I'm even hiding just to get to this site....

oh, Itami will remember a time when I could only go on her site and random points of the day, sometimes not visiting for weeks at a time. . .

Yeah, my parents have my account (and all the other ones) locked so I can't use the computer without their permission. Its not that bad, except not being able to be on the computer for weeks at a time. Oh yeah, and Chaos? If you ever need to run away from home (which I DO NOT advise), just come on over. We have a spare room. (wtf, why kirby? I donno)
