Since the season 2 rumors have recently been confirmed, I thought it as good a time as any to talk about this series (and it's fandom/cult). I love it personally. I've been reading the light novels too, and the translation is pretty good, except for a few typos here and there. So what do you think?

yeah. There's a lot of people who aren't into the hype (those are the hate anything that's new) but I really enjoy it. The dub's pretty good too, though I'm mad that they weren't allowed to do Kyon's order except on those special editions.

well, if you don't tell us the gist, we won't watch it anyways, so either way...

Well, it's basically about this guy named Kyon as he enters high school. Kyon is a cynic who doesn't believe in the supernatural. On the first day of school, the girl sitting behind him introduces herself by saying that she was Haruhi Suzumiya and wasn't interested in anyone that wasn't an alien, time traveler, or esper. Kyon, of course, thought this weird, and begins talking to her before school everyday (this is when some more of her eccentricities are exposed). One day the topic of conversation was the school clubs (Haruhi had tried out every school club and never joined a single one!) Kyon asks why she didn't join any, and she says that it's because they were all too normal. This conversation sparks an idea in Haruhi's head--to start her own club! So Haruhi drags Kyon along to help her in her planning, and also "recruits" (aka kidnaps) other people to join her club. She calls it the "SOS Brigade" (the spreading excitement all over the world with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade). Its mission: to find aliens, espers, and time travelers and have fun with them! Kyon of course finds this all very ridiculous, but as time goes on, some of the other members clue him in on the secrets of Haruhi Suzumiya, and that aliens, time travelers, and espers don't just exist in manga.

Really bad summary, and it's a lot funnier than how I wrote it to seem. Haruhi is ruthless, and will do ANYTHING to get what she wants. Wikipedia information (which does have spoilers)
