We really need a good RP that everyone can participate in, as right now, most of the RPs only contain around three of the members, or are dead. Here are some ideas:

Non-original ideas:
Ranma 1/2: Fun, easy, and everyone could post within seconds, no planning required.

Fruits Basket: We ALMOST had this one going before, but it died before it began. It could work though.

Final Fantasy X-3: Again, we almost made this one before, but as usual, it died before it began...

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle: This could be really fun, but this one WOULD require planning.

Original Ideas: (I have none...)

All we need is to create a 'Quick RP' board where anyone can create a thread that just states the setting and people spontaneously make short posts (around a paragraph long) and do so quickly and repetitively like a lot of other RP sites.

I think a Ranma 1/2 RP would be fun.....but that might get complicated if ppl haven't seen some of the episodes.

I think we should do a Sailor Moon or Kaleido Star RP!!!
But then again.....no one would really understand much about either except me and cheriko.....dang.

A star wars one, Like set up 1000 years after return of the jedi, We could go to the star wars website to decide which kind of race you want to be because they have every alien race in star wars on that site, Or you could be a Human. You could also have classes like Jedi, bounty hunter, Droid, trooper, or Other.

I don't think the depth of rp was why all the ones we've had have died. With quick rps like that, there are usually hundreds of members; people come and go and do basically whatever they want, with only a bit of overlap from the different members. Because there are so few people on this site, and therefore less people on the rps, all the characters interact more with one another. The problems come from the fact that when the author of a certain character stops posting, everyone else is affected.

Take the Death Note rp. For the most part, that rp is centered around one character, Christian, with the rest of us just posting in reaction to what he does--no matter how people posted, Christian would be the "protagonist". When Takumi stopped posting--I guess he actuall has some sort of LIFE--the rest of us had nothing to really post to. Even though Itami had ideas of what to do, she needed Takumi to actually be able to do it. So, even though there are plenty of ideas, if one character leaves, the rest of us are affected. (Note: I'm not trying to hammer down on Takumi--again, it's good that he has a life outside of rps--I'm just stating that it affects the rest of us). This kind of rp, being centered on one person, is doomed to fail. And even with other rps, where there wasn't a definite protagonist, the point where the rp died was when a character was needed to act as a catalyst and the author of that character hadn't been around. People got bored, and by the time the author was around, everyone had moved on.

Now let's look at the Naruto rp on Itami's site. That one was able to get much farther than other rps. It had several members, and no one character was for the most part centric. Another thing that it had going for it was that there were canon characters: when something needed to be done, there were more pawns to play, rather than waiting for another author to do it for you. But it too started to die. I think that this one began to die because the website it was on was dying. People just stopped going on the site (I personally believe that that rp would obtain a large boost if it were to move to this site, but I'm not going to go into that since that isn't my rp and this isn't my site). Then it started to become one-character-centric in an attempt to make things more exciting (I'm sad to say that it was often ME who needed to post). These two things made people leave in waves, which made it even harder to post, because now people had to pull the strings of multiple characters in order to make everything smooth. Now, though the rp has gone through these hurdles, it still has a lot of characters that need to be killed off (we've already gotten rid of 2) and it needs a spot where more people can join (we think there is one, but it's only available to people with specific characters).

So any rp that you want to last needs to be able to avoid having a protagonist and needs other pawns that no specific person owns (for rps that aren't based on series, it would be best for you guys to just come up with random characters--moving a character that someone does own usually results in pissing off the owner, but in some cases it must be done). It needs more than 3 participants too: it doesn't really matter how much you want the rp; if none of the current members want to join and there isn't a large flow of new members, than the rp isn't going to work. Taking these considerations into the choices above, I think a Ranma 1/2 rp would work best (though, it will again only do if enough people know the plot of Ranma 1/2).

I'd rather there be more original RPs then ones based on existing concepts.
Why?
I hate continuity errors. This is never more apparent then the Death Note RP. Nothing really make sense. Ryuk had already dropped his notebook one (Twice if you count the Death Note original concept part of the DN universe), and he said Note dropping rarely happens. Then stupid stuff happens like "I'm a drunk so I can do this" or "I'm from Wammy's house so I know this" or "I held Roger hostage because I had a .0005% hunch that he knew something about the Kira case blah blah blah". None of that really make sense if you've read the manga, seen the movies, and watched the anime as much as I have, and who would spill their heart out to a drunk anyways.

Secondly, It lets you carve your own path with no boundaries. If you want to do something (unless it's godmoding) you do it. Not "that character would never do that, so I won't", which in itself clashes with my previous statement, where the character is still doing stuff the would never do.

Frankly, I've stated and proved my case about my posts, and have read every death note volume, every Point i bring up you don't acknowledge as plausible Lawliet, and frankly if you aren't in a rp you shouldn't criticize, also if you were trying to state what i did on the death note Rp you are sorely mistaken, None of that happened because he was drunk. You are just trying to spark controversy. Also my star wars RP is perfectly canon since it takes place 1000 years after return of the jedi, it's un-marked territory.
My character in the Death note RP never was drunk, he was ACTING drunk, must i stress this the 1000th time? Also i'd tell anyone whatever they wanted if they had a friggin' gun to my head.

All in all, my post was not to start conflict. It could start conflict, and you certainly did spark some up. So let me say that I'm stopping here and I suggest you stop there too.

I just needed some ideas to get more RPs.

Instead, I get a whole big arguementy thing.

Really, that doesn't bother me all that much.

But guess what? Now the only moving rp we have is the Star Wars one, thankyouverymuchModrocker, however, not everybody participates in that one. (Such as myself, as I am not a big fan of Star wars) which brings us back to point A.

What Rp would you like to do? Because so far, all I've really heard was what Rp you would NOT like to do. And that doesn't help all that much.

This is where I would like to revisit the SSX rp I suggested a while (really? years?) back. I know it's not an rp based on a manga or anime or anything, but this could be really fun. If you've ever seen or played any of the games, you know that there's no main character, only the competitors. If every rp-er had <1 character, then it would be movin right along based on who could post most often.

Oh! I have another Idea that seeing a commercial for Total Drama Island reminded me of.

We could have a competition of sorts with an elimination type game. after some amount of posts and an event, everyone votes someone off and some outside rpßer or the host or whoever could tally the votes and hold the elimination ceremony.

Oooo, that last one could be fun.... you might wanna try to see if that would work for a quick-rp.
